Leveling to fast

I just installed ark server manager and have been trying to verify i have experience set up the same as an official server. The multiplier is set to one but i get 2 levels just punching the first tree, and after maybe 3 hours of playing im already level 28, i havent done anything 6 foundation shack, tamed a couple dinos. I killed a level 150 therizono that was trapped in a gulley and made 6 levels. is this normal? do i need to just set the xp under 1.0?
