When the ASM upgrades, we delete the original ASM directory as part of the process. As a result you should *never* put any files - particularly server installations - in the same place as the ASM itself. The ASM does not currently prevent you from doing this - I will add checks in an upcoming version to warn you against this.
If you put your data in the same location where you extracted the zip file, then that data will get lost on upgrade.
